Research queue Research note: SEE ALSO the colt-government-model-45acp record, which covers the .45 ACP SKU O1911C-SS from the archived spec sheet discussed below. That record exists BECAUSE this one could not use that sheet: it is a different SKU, and the two must not be conflated. SCOPED, NOT VERIFIED, AND THE REASON IS THE MANUFACTURER RATHER THAN THE EFFORT. Colt's product page for the 1911 Classic Government (SKU O1911C-SS9) publishes exactly four facts — SKU, Caliber 9MM, Capacity 8+1 Rounds, Action Semi-Automatic — plus a $1,199 price. It carries no description prose at all, and no barrel length, overall length, height, width, weight, sights, finish or frame material. That is fewer published specifications than any other manufacturer in this directory, Shadow Systems included. Everything below records what was checked, so the next attempt starts where this one stopped rather than repeating it. COLT'S OWN DOCUMENTS DO NOT FILL THE GAP. colt.com/manuals hosts 54 PDFs and three cover this platform — the Series 70 Government Model manual, the Series 80 pistols manual, and the 2023 1911 Optics Ready manual — and NONE contains a specification table; grepping all three for barrel length, overall length, weight and the word "specification" returns nothing but an unrelated sentence about mounting-screw torque. colt.com/catalogs renders no PDFs, and colt.com/customer-service and /support are real 404s. A SPEC-SHEET ROUTE EXISTS BUT IS DEAD AND WOULD NOT HAVE COVERED THIS SKU ANYWAY. Colt once served spec sheets from `colt.com/api.php?action=specsheet&product_id=…`; that endpoint 404s today, and the Web Archive holds 58 captures of it, of which one is this model family: product_id 573460, "Colt Government Series 70 .45 ACP 7rd x1, 5" Barrel, Stainless Finish, Rosewood Grips, O1911C-SS". It is a real PDF and it does carry a 5 in barrel and an 8.5 in overall length — but it was NOT used, for two independent reasons. First, it describes O1911C-SS, the .45 ACP seven-round SKU, where this record covers O1911C-SS9, the 9 mm eight-round one; carrying dimensions across from a differently chambered SKU is precisely the cross-model transplant the source policy forbids, however likely it is that a Government-pattern frame measures the same in both. Second, the sheet is Colt-hosted but retailer-shaped — it carries a $999 price and a list of state restrictions, and it contradicts itself on the model, reading "MODEL: 1991 Government" under a title saying Series 70, which are different Colt models. A document that cannot keep its own model straight is not a document to source a record from. Note also that it still publishes no weight, height or width, so even accepting it would have left the record short. LOWER TIERS WERE NOT ESTABLISHED TO AGREE, WHICH IS THE ACTUAL BLOCKER. guns.com returns 403 to a plain fetch, Bud's returns 404 for the SKU, and Brownells serves a JavaScript search shell with no occurrence of the SKU in its HTML. Nothing was found that publishes dimensions for O1911C-SS9 specifically, so the MR920 test — do the lower tiers agree well enough to record an explicitly named configuration? — could not even be run, let alone passed. WHAT WOULD UNBLOCK THIS, in descending order of preference: a Colt spec sheet or catalog page naming O1911C-SS9; a reachable retailer or editorial source that names that SKU and publishes dimensions, with a second source agreeing; or a user decision to record the .45 ACP O1911C-SS as its own separate record from the archived sheet, which would be defensible on its own terms since that sheet names that SKU exactly — but which would be a different record from this one, not a substitute for it. What is NOT acceptable is transplanting the .45's figures onto the 9 mm listing. Base-model scope for whenever it is verified: Colt's current 1911 line also lists the 1911 Classic Rose Gold, Custom Carry Government in .45 ACP and 9 mm, Optics-Ready 1911 in .45 ACP and 9 mm, the Optics-Ready CCU Government Model, Gold Cup Trophy, the Commander and Defender lines and the Lightweight Officer's Model, all separate listings under the base-model rule. Colt states the action as "Semi-Automatic" on the page, which is a firearm class rather than any of this directory's three action axes, so nothing is recorded on them even provisionally; the archived sheet's "SAO" belongs to the other SKU.
